COVID-19 Trying to stay positive

I launched in the beginning of the year with the aim of helping the NHS by encouraging the older adult back into exercise. Promoting physical activity among the over 65’s I believe can help save the NHS millions by curtailing avoidable diseases.

Now we have COVID-19 and the whole world has turned upside down. It is heart-breaking to hear how another family loses a loved one because of underlying health conditions. These same underlying health conditions that I want to tackle. Coronavirus is giving the world a kicking. Over 70’s need to self-isolate for 12 weeks. If that isn’t scary enough, they face weeks of isolation. The only thing left to do is fight and try and stay positive. I strongly believe that you can use this time of isolation for good and come out stronger than you went in. It is so important that you remain as active as you can, keep the blood pumping around your body and not sit for too long during this difficult time. Don’t let your muscles atrophy, make them stronger.

Don’t let frailty creep in, get fitter. Make your body as active and as mobile as you can so you can give yourself the best fighting chance to beat this disease. The current guidelines are 150 minutes of moderate intensity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week. There are many good exercise options available for free online, via a phone, tablet or smart TV and now there’s time to pick the one that suits you best. Obviously, I would love you to have a look at mine, but I don’t care if you don’t.

What I care about is that you use this time positively, maintain your physical and mental health and that you come out of this fitter and stronger than before.
